Your Role

The Distribution Engineering Manager is responsible for providing direction, coaching, supervision, and mentoring to a team of professional and technical staff within the Distribution Line Engineering Department.

Department Overview

Our experience means we have the capacity to manage and design concurrent large‑scale transmission and distribution projects for one or more clients. Our engineering staff has designed hundreds of miles of overhead transmission and distribution lines for a variety of energy clients including investor‑owned utilities, public utilities, municipalities, independent power producers, rural cooperatives, and industrial clients. We utilize the latest in design software tools to provide a thorough technical line design that assures the lowest cost design.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise a group of engineers, designers, drafters, and project support coordinators to successfully deliver distribution line projects, and administer performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Direct and oversee the work of Design and Planning Engineers, including conceptual routes, layouts, preliminary and detailed designs, and specifications for distribution lines.
  • Create construction sketches, plan and profile sheets, staking sheets, bills of materials, and permit drawings.
  • Prepare pole loading drawings, framing drawings, and construction drawings.
  • Perform pole loading, cable pulling, and other design calculations.
  • Manage as‑built revisions.
  • Lead Distribution System Planning projects, including construction work plans and long‑range plan development.
  • Lead Distribution System Protection projects, including coordination studies and relay settings development.
  • Monitor and maintain staffing and utilization levels within the Distribution Line Engineering group to help ensure the successful realization of operations and project milestones.
  • Build and maintain a strong professional network of existing and potential customers, especially municipal and electric cooperative utilities in Florida, and travel to client sites, field, or vendor facilities as needed.
  • Perform quality reviews of engineering work for both internal assets and sub‑contractors on assigned projects.
  • Manage the development of project proposals, bid preparation, project schedules, and bills of materials for assigned projects.
What You Bring

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET‑accredited university. PE required; 2 years additional experience accepted in lieu of license.

Experience
  • 10+ years of distribution line design and related project execution experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and developing multi‑discipline engineering personnel, including delegating workloads, directing others, and planning distribution line projects.

Willingness to travel up to 25%.
