Engineering Manager - Power Electronics

South Ventura County, CA | $175,000 – $210,000 | Full-Time | Onsite | Monday–Friday

Overview

Join a well-established Electronics OEM of high-performance control solutions in South Ventura County. In this senior leadership role you will combine deep technical expertise in power electronics with people management – leading the electrical engineering team and driving product architecture from concept through production.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and develop the electrical engineering and PCB engineering teams; provide organizational management for the mechanical engineering team
• Set technical direction for power electronics architecture, design methods, and hardware platforms
• Architect and review power stages for servo drives and AC/DC conversion topologies — component selection, derating, efficiency, thermal performance, and reliability
• Guide gate drive circuits, sensing, protection, and analog front-end conditioning
• Oversee analog control loop development and tuning for power conversion and servo amplifier functions
• Drive EMI/EMC filtering strategies and lead collaboration on grounding, shielding, layout, and packaging
• Oversee auxiliary and bias power supply design (isolated/non-isolated)
• Establish loss, thermal, and derating analysis standards; drive cooling requirements
• Lead design reviews, risk assessments, sustaining engineering, and design standards
• Partner with manufacturing and applications engineering on bring-up, debug, root-cause analysis, and customer escalations

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of electrical engineering and power electronics design experience (15+ preferred) including industrial motor drives and/or power conversion products
• Prior technical leadership or people management experience
• Strong background in analog closed-loop control design for industrial power supplies and motor drives
• Experience with mixed-signal power electronics up to ~800V and ~500A
• Hands‑on design of linear and switching power supplies and associated magnetics
• Proficiency with SPICE and MATLAB/Simulink or Mathcad
• Ability to lead PCB layout reviews for high power density and low EMI

Required Education

• S. in Electrical Engineering required; Ph.D. is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams in a product development environment
• Familiarity with industrial safety and regulatory standards (UL/IEC)
• Motor control and servo drive experience
• Embedded/DSP control exposure
• Knowledge of power semiconductors (Si/SiC/GaN) and gate drive considerations
• Experience designing magnetics for power conversion
• Thermal management and cooling system design experience
