Job summary

Perplexity is seeking an Engineering Manager for Multimodal to lead realtime voice and multimodal experiences across its platform. You will hire and develop engineers, set technical direction, and drive products at the intersection of voice, vision, and agents.

You will own the team roadmap, decide which experiences to build next, and shape the architecture behind end-to-end voice interactions, ensuring latency and reliability at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience managing engineering teams and coaching/ performance management.
• Strong software engineering background in backend or distributed systems.
• Experience designing and operating production services in scaling environments on AWS or similar.
• Track record of leading teams to ship complex projects in fast-moving environments.
• Strong product judgment and ability to translate user problems into clear technical priorities.
• Clear communication across teams and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience with Rust, Python, Go (Rust/Python preferred).
• Genuine interest in AI products and ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Multimodal team in building realtime voice and multimodal experiences from prototype to production.
• Own the team's roadmap and decide which experiences to build next and what infrastructure is needed.
• Hire and develop engineers, giving ownership and growth feedback.
• Shape the architecture behind end-to-end voice experiences, from user input to model responses.
• Lead systems turning live conversations into actions, linking voice models to tools and tasks.
• Address latency, reliability, and scaling challenges of live voice."
• Collaborate with SDK, client, infrastructure, and model teams to turn audio/vision capabilities into usable experiences.
• Improve the experience post-launch using user feedback and performance data.
