Summary:

BigBox VR, the team behind POPULATION: ONE, is seeking an Engineering Manager who can help build the future of Virtual Reality games. This person will make engineering trade-offs that align with business objectives while embracing teamwork, as well as solve problems with little or no oversight.

Responsibilities:

  1. Engineering Coach: Provide specific and balanced feedback, and have regular one-on-one meetings.
  2. Results-Oriented Execution: Focus on helping the team achieve their goals by removing obstacles and being a resource. Work with the team to manage day-to-day tasks and communications. Work closely with the team’s leadership to set high-level goals and directions for our projects and ensure it’s executed successfully.
  3. Communication: Engage in active listening, share information transparently, and encourage open dialogue. Coordinate with all disciplines to schedule and track key work.
  4. Clear Roadmap and Strategy: Set clear goals, provide direction, and ensure the team understands how their work fits into the larger picture.
  5. Leverage Technical Skills: Use technical skills to understand the challenges the team faces and provide informed guidance.
  6. Support Career Development: Help team members with their career paths, provide growth opportunities, and have regular performance discussions.
  7. Holistic Product Understanding: Understand products holistically and can contribute creatively, knowing when to be pragmatic and when to be blue sky.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  2. 5+ years as an engineering leader in game development or multiple shipped games.
  3. Wide knowledge of software development practices and knowledge of when and how to apply them to teams.
  4. Experience communicating with cross-functional partners and stakeholders throughout the iterative technical and game development process.
  5. In-depth experience adapting to various communication and work styles.
  6. Demonstrated history of working well with cross-functional teams and organizations.
  7. Experience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and/or discussion within the team.
  8. Experience growing and mentoring teams.
  9. 2+ years of management experience.
  10. An ideal candidate has hands-on experience with common engineering and game development practices and can manage and support a team of highly-skilled programmers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Working knowledge of 3D math.
  2. Demonstrated success managing Graphics Engineers or Server Engineers.
  3. Experience building 3D Game Engines.

Public Compensation:

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits.
