DoorDash is hiring an Engineering Manager for the Mx AI/ML team to design and deploy next-generation AI product solutions powering merchant experiences. You will lead ML engineers building real AI products, collaborate with product/design/ops, and own end-to-end ML system lifecycles at massive scale.

You will drive innovation in multimodal AI and GenAI content, mentor engineers, and help shape an inclusive, high-impact engineering culture across the organization.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in machine learning and AI engineering with 2+ years in leadership of mix of scientists and engineers.
• Proven track record deploying AI/ML systems at scale and shipping products used by millions.
• Broad ML knowledge with depth in CV, NLP, generative models, or large-scale agent systems.
• Strong communication and partnering with product, design, and operations.

About the Team

The Merchant (Mx) AI/ML team is a cornerstone of DoorDash’s merchant organization. We empower our restaurant partners to thrive on DoorDash by building intelligent, scalable AI systems that simplify operations, elevate their digital presence, and enhance customer engagement.

Our world-class machine learning engineers develop production-grade AI solutions that power the entire merchant lifecycle — from onboarding and store setup to menu management, growth, and real-time order operations. The team is deeply customer-obsessed and impact-driven, focused on turning cutting-edge research in LLMs, multimodal learning, generative AI, and agentic automation into products that make our merchants more successful every day.

About the Role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead the Mx AI/ML team, driving the design and deployment of next-generation AI product solutions that power our merchant experiences.

This is a highly cross-functional leadership role — you’ll collaborate with product, design, operations, and data science teams to define the AI roadmap, guide technical direction, and deliver end-to-end AI/ML solutions at massive scale.

You’ll lead a team of talented ML engineers who are building real AI products delivered to merchants’ fingertips, helping them become more successful on DoorDash.

We're excited about you because you have…

• 7+ years of industry experience in machine learning and AI engineering, including 2+ years of leadership experience managing applied scientists and ML engineers.
• A proven track record of building and deploying AI/ML systems at scale, with shipped AI-powered products that have reached millions of users.
• Broad knowledge of machine learning and technical depth in one or more areas: computer vision, natural language processing, generative models, or large-scale agent systems.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
• A demonstrated ability to define clear roadmaps and execution plans to deliver team success.
• A passion for building teams, mentoring talent, and cultivating an inclusive, high-impact culture.

Compensation

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.

In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. Talk to your recruiter for more information.

See below for paid time off details:

• For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.
• For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked (e.g. about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week), and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (e.g. about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month if working 20 hours/week).

The national base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado.

$193,800 — $285,000 USD
