Job summary

Discord is seeking a technical, hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Safety ML team. You will own detection systems for content understanding and platform abuse, build and mentor a team of ML engineers, and drive the roadmap with partners across Trust & Safety, Product, Policy, Legal, and Data Science.

You should have 5+ years in ML roles and 3+ years in engineering management, with a proven track record of shipping ML systems to production at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer, Data Scientist, or Applied Scientist.
• 3+ years as an Engineering Manager leading a team of 5+ engineers.
• Hands-on depth in abuse/fraud detection, content classification, behavioral modeling, or related ML approaches.
• Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
• Proven track record shipping ML systems to production at scale.
• Willingness to coach and lead other engineers while contributing code when needed.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead an exceptional team of ML engineers with coaching and ownership.
• Drive technical vision and roadmap for Safety ML in collaboration with Trust & Safety, Product, Policy, Legal, and Data Science.
• Own end-to-end lifecycle of production safety models, including definition, measurement, and monitoring of performance.
• Elevate system quality by improving processes and delivering high-impact results across the organization.
• Partner with teams on label quality, golden sets, and automating investigations.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers to continuously improve the Engineering organization and workplace practices.
