Job summary

Akamai, part of the Cloud Platform Infrastructure Group, seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team delivering a custom Linux kernel for Akamai's global fleet. You will guide performance, reliability, and security strategies while contributing hands-on when needed.

The role requires 8+ years of experience, a CS degree, and deep Linux kernel knowledge (KVM, networks, memory, filesystems). You will mentor engineers and collaborate across open-source communities to deliver results.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Experience leading technical teams in C or Linux kernel environments.
• Strong understanding of Linux kernel internals including KVM, networks, memory, and filesystems.
• Familiarity with vulnerability management, performance benchmarking, and kernel debugging tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering team to design, build, and scale custom Linux kernel solutions.
• Drive feature development, performance tuning, vulnerability management, and new hardware support.
• Guide engineers in debugging, isolating, and resolving low-level system issues.
• Mentor team members, set quality standards, and foster career growth; collaborate cross-functionally.
