OpenAI, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Rosalind Workbench, leading a team of engineers in San Francisco. You will hire, develop, and set technical direction to transform ambitious roadmaps into reliable releases.

Qualifications

• Experience leading engineering teams that ship and operate complex software products.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and judgment to work across user-facing apps, backend services, data systems, and compute infrastructure.
• Experience turning prototypes or research capabilities into reliable products for external customers.
• Ability to communicate decisions clearly and coordinate teams with different priorities.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the engineering team; hire strong engineers and coach leaders.
• Drive technical planning, milestones, and tradeoffs to keep the team focused.
• Shape the Workbench architecture across interfaces, orchestration, compute, and state management.
• Ensure inspectability, reproducibility of scientific work, and maintainability of data and results.
• Own production quality with testing, release practices, observability, and on-call processes.
• Coordinate with Codex and customer-facing engineers on deployment needs and integrations.
• Turn customer learning into reusable improvements and address enterprise requirements.
• Bridge product engineering with research and build instrumentation for evaluation.
