Job description

Phiston Technologies, a leading manufacturer of high-security data destruction equipment (SSD/HDD/mobile device shredders) serving enterprises, government agencies, and data centers worldwide, is growing — and our engineering team is growing with it. We're looking for an Engineering Manager who can lead that growth, not just manage it.

Let's be upfront: this is a hard job. You'll be joining a lean team without a lot of existing scaffolding in place. There's no fully built-out process playbook waiting for you — you'll be building it as you go, while still shipping product. If you want a role where the structure is already defined and you just execute against it, this isn't that. If you want to be the person who builds the structure, this is a rare opportunity to do that with real authority and visibility.

What you'll do:
  • Lead and grow a hardware engineering team (currently design/electromechanical engineers, PLC/robotics engineering, and design interns) as headcount scales
  • Design and implement the engineering processes, documentation standards, and team structure needed to support a growing product line — much of this doesn't exist yet in mature form
  • Own end-to-end hardware product development from concept through production
  • Drive design quality, DFM/DFA practices, and compliance with industry standards (DIN 66399, NIST 800-88, NAID AAA)
  • Oversee mechanical, electrical, and controls integration across shredder and destruction device platforms
  • Balance hands‑on technical leadership with the people‑management work of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers as the team expands
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Operations, QA, and Production — and act as a driving voice in how engineering scales alongside the rest of the company
  • Manage competing priorities: active production support, new product development, and process‑building, often simultaneously
What we're looking for:
  • 10+ years in mechanical/electromechanical hardware engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership or management role — ideally including experience scaling a team or standing up engineering processes from scratch
  • Strong background in SolidWorks, GD&T, FEA, and PLM/ECO processes
  • Experience with motor/sensor/wiring integration, controls, and physical device manufacturing
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, allergic to "that's not my job," and genuinely energized by building systems rather than inheriting them
Location:

Onsite, Miramar, FL

This role isn't for everyone — but if you've been looking for the chance to actually build an engineering org rather than maintain one, we'd love to talk.
