As an Engineering Manager on the Growth – Experiences team, you'll lead a squad of full-stack engineers focused on tackling some of the biggest challenges in growing and retaining Discord's 200M+ monthly active users. This role is highly experimentation-driven, blending product strategy with technical execution.
The Experiences team aims to remove friction from the user journey, improve onboarding, increase retention, and build scalable systems that bring more people into the Discord ecosystem—and keep them coming back.
- Define and Execute Growth Strategy
- Partner cross-functionally (Product, Design, Data Science, Marketing) to build and ship experiments that drive metrics like user activation, DAU/MAU, and retention.
- Lead a Full-Stack Engineering Team
- Mentor and grow a team of engineers working across the stack. Set technical direction, provide architectural guidance, and instill best practices.
- Drive Results Through Experimentation
- Use A/B testing and rapid iteration to measure the impact of feature changes on user behavior and core growth KPIs.
- Own Roadmap Execution
- Translate product goals into technical deliverables, manage execution, and continuously push for improvement.
- Shape Technical Culture
- Promote quality engineering, inclusive leadership, and a sustainable pace of development. Contribute to engineering-wide improvements.
What You Should Have
- 5+ Years of Engineering Experience
- Ideally in product-heavy, consumer-facing tech environments (growth, social platforms, SaaS, etc.)
- 2+ Years in Engineering Management
- You’ve hired and developed teams, coached individuals, and helped guide architecture or process improvements.
- Hands-On Technical Chops
- You’re still technical enough to code-review, help unblock your team, and weigh in on design decisions. (You don’t have to code full-time.)
- You’re a cross-functional leader who works well with PMs, designers, marketers, and analysts to shape the product.
- Metric-Driven Mindset
- Comfortable designing experiments and interpreting results to inform product direction. Experience with A/B testing, funnel metrics, or lifecycle KPIs is a plus.
- User-Centered Product Thinking
- You can balance business needs with what's best for the user, and are passionate about building delightful, impactful experiences.
- Prior experience leading growth teams or experimentation platforms
- Experience working with large-scale consumer applications (100M+ users)
- Familiarity with Discord or online communities
- Background in social, gaming, or creator platforms
- Exposure to tools like Amplitude, Looker, BigQuery, or in-house analytics stacks
