Job summary

Crane Worldwide Logistics LLC is seeking an experienced BI Engineering Manager to lead enterprise analytics initiatives and mentor a cross-functional team in Houston.

You will build the data warehouse strategy, set engineering standards, and drive BI tooling and developer workflows across the organization.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years leading enterprise technology development, business intelligence or business insights teams.
  • Experience leading analytical solutions using commercial tools and platforms.
  • 5+ years working with business stakeholders and senior leaders in BI, business insights and data analytics.
  • At least 3 years of management experience in a technical capacity.
  • At least 5 years in a technology-focused capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain key relationships by leading stakeholder calls with core BI domains.
  • Ensure tactical engineering decisions are sound via design reviews and standards.
  • Coordinate BI team through stand-ups, ticketing discipline, sprint planning, and capacity management.
  • Hire skilled candidates and perform regular 1:1s for performance management.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers on cross-team projects and set direction with the Director of Enterprise Analytics.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Maintaining key relationships, by running or attending stakeholder calls with each of the core BI domains
  • Ensuring tactical engineering decisions are sound, through design reviews and design standards
  • This does *not* include reviewing every PR. While you should review a sample of PRs to keep a pulse on team progress and check quality, code reviews are an engineer responsibility
  • Coordinate the actions of the BI team by
  • Hosting regular stand-ups
  • Holding team members accountable fortimelyticket/issue updates
  • Planning sprints and managing project capacity & pace
  • Build an effective engineering team by
  • Hiring skilled candidates
  • Setting regular 1:1s and following through on performance management with staff
  • Coordinate with engineering/development manager peers on cross-team projects
  • Set & execute strategic direction with the Director of Enterprise Analytics, including
  • Hiring & onboarding standards
  • Team capacity management
  • Cross-domain analytics strategy
  • Technical strategy, including data warehouse design, developer tooling, and BI engineer workflow design

You should *not* take on critical-path development items, but you should spend ~10-15% of time contributing fixes, minor features, and debugging. This will allow you to stay in tunewith thedeveloperexperience andmaintaina working knowledge of our enterprise data models.

The BI Engineering Manager role is effective when you empower the team to execute quickly and efficiently, with a common vision. While technical leadership is a core responsibility and hands-on skills are expected, this is not a developer role.

Education and Experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading enterprise technology development, businessintelligenceor business insights teams
  • Experience leading and implementing analytical solutions using commercial tools and platforms
  • 5+ years of experience working with business stakeholders and senior leaders in understanding and delivering business intelligence, businessinsightsand data analytics solutions
  • At least 3 years of management experience in a technical capacity
  • At least 5 years of experience in a technology focused capacity
Physical Requirements
  • Job requires the ability to use vision, adjust focus and work on a standard computer screen.
  • Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment.
  • Job will require presence on-site at the assigned work location.
  • Job requires attendance and dependability.
Minimum Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States for any company in an ongoing capacity without company sponsorship.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Other Skills and Abilities
  • 5+ years building in BI tools
  • Preferred: experience applying product management fundamentals to BI assets,including:marketing, usage monitoring, and incremental product improvement
  • 5+ years writing andoptimizingSQL, including using a cloud data warehouse platform
  • Preferred: extensive experience working with Snowflake
  • Prior experience leading data projects
  • Preferred: 5+ years of supply chain orlogisticsexperience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a technical discipline such as engineering, math, economics, computer science, etc.
