About the team:

Tapestry is X’s moonshot for the electric grid. We are a team of software engineers, power systems experts, and clean energy geeks who are impatient to tackle climate change head-on through our energy system. We are working with partners around the world to create AI-powered tools that will help everyone who works with the grid build and manage a carbon-free and secure electricity system. Currently incubating at X, Alphabet’s innovation lab, we are now building the team that will scale Tapestry for more global impact. About the role:

As we continue to deploy our technology in countries like Chile, Australia, and the United States, we need to ensure that our systems meet the needs of an evolving electric grid across the planet. As an Engineering Manager, Distributed Systems, you will build, lead, and manage a growing team of Software Engineers to execute on this goal. Additionally, you will establish engineering excellence, tools, architecture, infrastructure, and technical strategy in partnership with Product and Power Systems Engineering.

How you will make 10x impact:

1. Build, lead, hire, and manage a world-class team of Software Engineers.
2. Establish engineering excellence: lay the foundation of the technology, tools, architecture, and technical strategy.
3. Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product, UX, Data Science, and Power Systems Engineering to drive alignment and deliver impactful technology.
4. Hands-on technical contributions: Provide technical guidance to the team on design and implementation and be willing to be hands-on and dive deep as needed.

What you should have:

1. BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other relevant technical discipline.
2. 5+ years experience in building and maintaining highly scalable and reliable cloud-based production systems (GCP preferred).
3. 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing strategic projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
4. Experience with large-scale data processing and modeling, designing backend services, and building enterprise/consumer applications.

It’d be great if you also had these:

1. Experience working in a Startup/early stage company with rapidly changing requirements and limited oversight.
2. Experience in modern software development for enterprise partners.
3. Working knowledge or background in power systems, Electrical Engineering, or a passion to help optimize them.
4. Experience with RDF or any other graph database technologies.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $201,000 - $265,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
