Job summary

Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the MAAS team and drive high‑quality software delivery for metal‑as‑a‑service infrastructure. You will mentor engineers, shape architecture and collaborate across cloud-init, LXD, and public cloud initiatives.

Located in a work‑from‑anywhere model (EMEA or the Americas), you will manage distributed teams, code review, and set engineering strategy while traveling 4–6 weeks per year to internal and external events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Proven experience delivering software using Python, Golang, or similar languages.
  • Experience with Linux system administration (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
  • Familiarity with Linux cloud computing technologies: networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
  • Technical aptitude for understanding distributed systems.
  • Proficient English with strong presentation skills.
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
  • Ability to mentor, develop, and support team members.
  • Strong drive to meet commitments and travel internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop engineers; drive career planning.
  • Set expectations and coordinate with other engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocate modern software development practices and ensure quality delivery.
  • Participate in code and architecture reviews to influence design choices.
  • Collaborate with Canonical teams (cloud-init, LXD, public cloud) and partners.
  • Travel internationally 4–6 weeks per year to internal/external events.
