The Opportunity:

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Customer's team through people and technical leadership with a dedication to mentorship, knowledge sharing, cultivating belonging, and collaboration. The Customer's team focuses on continuously enhancing commercetools’ customers through providing search capabilities for those entities and integrating them into our commerce workflows.

Your Mission:

  • Responsible for the people and culture in your team:
    • You are vital for making your team a better place by growing your people and investing in your team’s health, motivation, career, culture, and team building.
    • You foster a culture of mutual constructive feedback and support in your team and that everyone feels safe to express their ideas and suggestions.
    • You conduct effective 1-1 meetings with your engineers.
  • Responsible for the delivery and the processes of your team:
    • You are crucial for ensuring smooth delivery and removing blockers.
    • You seek process improvements collaboratively with your team and your Product Manager.
  • Champion our tech vision and provide technical guidance to engineers.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Agile Coaches, People Business Partners, Head of Engineering, and the CTO.

What you need to succeed:

  • Multiple years of experience managing software engineers in a distributed product team.
  • An engineering background, ideally in backend development on the JVM.
  • Hands-on experience with coding, software architecture, and system design.
  • Passion for growing, coaching, and mentoring your team.
  • Strong understanding of agile methodologies, best practices, and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with an empathetic and reflective mindset.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Commitment to knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Java, Kotlin, or Scala backend development.
  • Experience in the commerce industry.
