Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Connectivity Hardware Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for the sourcing and release of connectivity telematics hardware across GM vehicles. You will own BoM, manage ECRs, and drive DFMEA with suppliers while ensuring packaging and integration meet performance and regulatory targets.

The role collaborates with Vehicle Integration, Product, Software, and Quality teams to define roadmaps and ensure robust launch readiness.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead a small team of hardware Design Release Engineers focused on connectivity hardware modules.
• Drive specification development for connectivity components (performance, RF, power, security, regulatory, vehicle interfaces).
• Own sourcing, Engineering Change Requests (ECR), and align with Product Cost Engineering activities.
• Lead vehicle packaging and integration of connectivity hardware into vehicle platforms; ensure mechanical, thermal, EMC constraints are met.
• Manage BoM, ICDe/ICDm, and collaboration with cross-functional teams on system/vehicle requirements.
• Maintain supplier engagement and timely hardware delivery for development and production.
• Execute production approval activities and ensure documentation, test evidence, and regulatory approvals are in place.
• Develop and maintain DFMEA with internal teams and suppliers; drive mitigation and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate prototype, DV, PV, and launch hardware builds with suppliers and internal teams.
• Coordinate hardware issue resolution with design experts to ensure rapid triage and root cause resolution.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Connectivity Hardware Engineering Manager to join our team, focused on developing best-in-class automotive connectivity systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in end-to-end ECU hardware development, including sourcing, cost management, and supplier coordination, for wireless Connectivity telematics modules to ensure hardware meets performance, cost, and timing targets throughout the program life cycle.

Role Summary

The Engineering Manager, Connectivity Hardware will lead a small team of hardware Design Release Engineers responsible for the sourcing, and change management of connectivity telematics modules across all GM vehicles and architectures. This includes managing BoM and Tier‑N compliance, ensuring delivery of program‑specific ICD/ICDm, DFMEA, CTRS specifications, and leading hardware packaging and integration of the ECU into vehicle platforms.

This role is tightly coupled to cross‑functional teams, including vehicle integration, product management, and system engineering, to create secure and reliable connectivity solutions and assist in defining future technology roadmaps and resolution of issues that arise throughout development and production. This role will also work closely with Global Purchasing & Supply Chain, Contract Manufacturers, and validation teams to ensure production readiness and robust launch performance.

The ideal candidate combines strong people leadership, deep hardware design and test experience, and a solid understanding of wireless technologies used for Connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a small team of execution engineers focused on development and release of Connectivity hardware modules.
• Drive specification development for all Connectivity components (performance, RF, power, security, regulatory, vehicle interfaces, etc).
• Own sourcing, Engineering Change Requests (ECR), and alignment with Product Cost Engineering activities for Connectivity Hardware solutions.
• Lead vehicle packaging and integration of the Connectivity Hardware into vehicle platforms, ensuring mechanical, thermal, and EMC constraints are met while maintaining connectivity performance targets.
• Manage program‑specific interface control documents (ICDe/ICDm) and other component level specifications, ensuring alignment with system, software, and vehicle requirements.
• Maintain the ECU Bill of Material (BoM) and coordinate Tier‑N resiliency activities, including design reviews, timing alignment, risk tracking, and issue resolution.
• Manage Contract Manufacturer engagement for ECU builds, ensuring correct configuration, build readiness, and timely delivery of hardware for development and production.
• Execute and complete production approval activities for Connectivity Hardware ensuring all required documentation, test evidence, and regulatory approvals are in place for production release.
• Develop and maintain the program DFMEA in collaboration with internal teams and suppliers, driving mitigation actions and continuous improvement for field robustness.
• Coordinate prototype, DV, PV, and launch hardware builds with suppliers and internal teams, ensuring configuration control, issue tracking, and timely resolution of findings.
• Coordinate hardware issue resolution with hardware design experts to ensure issues are quickly triaged, root‑caused, and resolved.
• Support hardware bring‑up and in vehicle system test plan development and execution to ensure component and in‑vehicle performance meet specifications.
• Ensure Connectivity Hardware design documentation meets applicable safety, EMC/EMI, cybersecurity, and regulatory requirements, through working with domain experts.
• Align closely with cross functional teams from Product, Software, Quality, and Vehicle Teams on feature roadmap and development status.
• Report to senior leaders on Connectivity Hardware status, supplier readiness, cost and timing risks, and required escalations.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in hardware development for automotive, consumer electronics, or related industries.

• Experience with GM processes for sourcing, part release, and ECRs.
• Demonstrated ownership of hardware from concept through launch, including supplier engagement and cross‑functional alignment.

• Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical content and trade‑offs to leadership.
