Job description

  • Location: Remote (United States)
  • Employment: Full-time
  • Salary Range: $218,025 – $256,500 USD + bonus + equity + benefits
  • Team: Agent Productivity Tools (APT), part of the Enterprise Applications & Architecture org

Lead engineering efforts to build secure, scalable compliance and customer experience tools that streamline Coinbase’s service and support the company’s broader goals of security, cost-efficiency, and onboarding a billion users onchain.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers building compliance-focused CX platforms and tools.
  • Balance product vision with customer support, compliance, and technology needs.
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party vendor tools; drive build-vs-buy decisions.
  • Coach and mentor engineers to grow technically and professionally.
  • Collaborate across departments (engineering, design, product, CX) to break down complex work into actionable roadmaps.
  • Oversee architectural decisions and engineering quality standards.
  • Own and evolve engineering processes that improve SLAs and system reliability.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translate technical challenges for non-technical partners, making issues accessible and decisions transparent.
What Coinbase Looks For
  • Experience:
  • 8+ years in software engineering
  • 2+ years in engineering management
  • Proven experience with distributed systems and high-scale production environments
  • Technical skills:
  • Proficient in Ruby or Go
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines (CircleCI, BuildKite)
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, message queues
  • Able to thrive in ambiguity, with strong execution and decision-making ability
  • Comfortable leading teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Strong communication and collaboration across diverse teams
