Job summary

Nametag is hiring an engineering leader to own how the engineering team plans, ships, operates, and grows. This senior role oversees Go backend on AWS, a React/TypeScript frontend, native mobile clients, and ML systems for fraud detection.

You will read and review code, mentor staff and seniors, and shape delivery end-to-end with the CEO on roadmap and reliability. This remote-first role requires ownership mindset, strong architectural judgment, and a track record of building scalable, secure

Qualifications

• 3+ years managing software engineers, including senior staff, with a track record of shipping production systems.
• Strong engineering background, built and operated backend or distributed systems at scale, and can contribute to design reviews.
• Experience owning delivery for a team: planning, prioritization, and accountability for outcomes.
• Experience running on‑call and incident response for a production system with availability expectations.
• Demonstrated hiring success—built an interview process, not just sat on panels.
• Comfort operating at startup scope with ambiguous problems and shifting priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of senior and staff engineers; conduct regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
• Own operational health: reliability, on‑call, incident response, and postmortems that drive improvements.
• Partner with product, design, and executives to translate roadmaps into buildable plans and tradeoffs.
• Hire and shape the org: sourcing, interview design, calibration, and closing hires; establish fair processes.
• Define how the team engineers: standards for review, testing, deployment, documentation, and AI tooling usage.
