DebtBook in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead cross‑functional engineering teams building our Ruby on Rails, React, and SQL stack. You’ll ramp up, stay hands‑on, coach teammates, remove blockers, align efforts across the org, recruit engineers, and drive AI‑assisted development across the SDLC.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience getting results through your teammates — coaching and delegating to others.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and SQL.
• Experience with front-end, back-end, and databases.
• Experience using AI-assisted development in a real engineering workflow.
• Comfort operating in a high-growth environment where priorities shift.
• Experience driving significant change.

Responsibilities

• Ramp up as an IC for your first 90 days and ship code as a technical lead.
• Stay hands-on to model good work and ship alongside the team.
• Identify and remove blockers and improve processes for faster outcomes.
• Get people aligned and committed around the work.
• Lead onboarding for new hires and ensure 90‑day productivity.
• Lead adoption of AI-assisted development across the SDLC.
• Coach engineers to avoid unnecessary complexity and keep a high standard of quality.
• Be in the weeds to understand what is going well and what isn’t.
