Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead Westlaw Global Engineering, delivering AI-enabled legal research platforms and agents with retrieval-augmented generation. You will guide architecture, standards, and hands-on development, balancing speed with reliability across AWS-based, scalable services.

You will mentor engineers, hire top talent, and collaborate with Product and Design to align roadmaps with business goals in a hybrid U.S. environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on software engineering experience across front-end and back-end, with 3+ years leading engineering teams.
• Experience delivering production-grade full-stack systems with focus on security and reliability.
• Hands-on with LLMs in production or prototypes (RAG, prompt design, agent workflows).
• Proven ability to hire, coach, and develop engineers including Senior/Staff levels.
• Strong RESTful API design knowledge and modern UI frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of software engineers, including Senior and Staff levels, owning hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development.
• Develop engineers with strong software fundamentals and domain expertise in information retrieval and agentic system design.
• Foster a culture of empowered ownership and ensure production reliability.
• Shift team mindsets toward continuous learning and new tool adoption.
• Lead by example with hands-on coding, prototyping, and resolving critical production issues.
• Translate complex technical concepts for stakeholders.
