super is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to head the Platform Foundation team, responsible for the internal service framework powering hundreds of production services. You will scale the backend team from 5 to 8+ engineers, shape technical direction, and own hiring, growth, and stakeholder relationships.

You will partner with two tech leads to clarify leadership vs delivery, drive platform reliability, and foster adoption across internal teams while partnering with the Infrastructure/SRE

• Co-own platform uptime and DR with Infrastructure/SRE and define shared boundaries.

Role overview

Lead the Platform Foundation team responsible for the internal service framework that powers hundreds of production services. This is a people-and-delivery leadership role focused on scaling the team from 5 to 8+ engineers, partnering on technical direction while owning hiring, growth, and stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

• Own the core service framework, including the service runtime, storage and streaming SDKs, and the Kubernetes operators that provision infrastructure declaratively.
• Oversee the platform CLI and developer-facing tooling, covering object storage, search, caching, and out-of-the-box observability, alerting, and autoscaling for every service.
• Hire, onboard, and grow engineers, including settling several recent joiners and creating growth paths for junior team members.
• Drive platform reliability and adoption, with success measured by how many internal teams choose to build on the platform.
• Co‑own platform uptime and disaster recovery alongside the Infrastructure/SRE organisation, including a clear operational boundary for shared infrastructure.
• Partner with two tech leads who own technical direction, making the split between leadership and delivery responsibilities explicit.

Requirements

• Track record of growing a backend team through a step change in size and developing engineers into tech leads.
• Experience leading platform or infrastructure teams that serve internal engineering customers.
• Enough technical grounding to hold credible architecture conversations about distributed systems, streaming platforms such as Kafka, key‑value stores, and Kubernetes.
• Demonstrated skill in managing alongside strong tech leads, including more than one on the same team, without role confusion.
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and helping shape the role during early stages of the process.
• Track record of partnering with SRE or Infrastructure organisations on shared production ownership.
