Engineering Manager – Infrastructure & Payments

Location: Permanently Remote (U.S.-based)

Reports To: VP of Engineering

Our fast-growing, mission-driven fintech client is seeking anEngineering Operations Manager to lead and scale infrastructure and compliance operations across a high-volume payments platform. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who thrives at the intersection of systems engineering, team mentorship, and audit readiness.

Why This Role Matters

In this role, you will lead a small, high-performing DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team, responsible for maintaining and expanding secure, compliant infrastructure. Your work will directly support the scalability, reliability, and audit readiness of the core payments platform.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure or DevOps roles, ideally in payments or fintech environments
• Proven success managing SRE and DevOps teams
• Deep understanding of PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and general security frameworks
• Hands-on experience with compliance tools such as Drata
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field

Key Responsibilities

• Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of three engineers, setting clear goals and maintaining accountability.
• Infrastructure Oversight: Own cloud (AWS) and on-prem infrastructure that powers payment processing and bank settlements.
• Compliance & Security: Lead initiatives around PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and ISO 27001; drive adoption and use of compliance platforms like Drata.
• Architecture & Scaling: Design infrastructure to support expansion, including bank settlement hardware and secure enclaves.
• DevOps & Automation: Implement and enhance CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), containers (Docker, Kubernetes), and observability tools.
• Reliability Engineering: Establish and maintain service-level objectives, improve uptime, and refine incident response processes.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Finance to align infrastructure with product and business needs.
• Operational Excellence: Maintain clear documentation and track key engineering metrics such as deployment frequency, uptime, and mean time to recovery (MTTR).

Preferred Experience

• Experience with bank settlement systems
• AWS certification(s)
• Proficiency with Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes
• Familiarity with credit card and ACH processing workflows
• Background in low-bureaucracy, mission-oriented organizations
• Advanced degree in a related field
