Job description

CNC Machining Leader - Manufacturing Engineering & Shop Supervision (Aerospace)
About the Company

Our client is a well-established precision aerospace manufacturer serving commercial and military customers from its facility in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. With decades of history, the company has built a reputation for quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction producing complex machined components and assemblies for some of the world's leading aerospace organizations, including Lockheed Martin, Pratt & Whitney, GE Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, Safran, and Bell.

Company name and additional details will be shared with candidates who advance in the process. This is a fully on-site role, five days per week.

Position Summary

We're looking for an experienced CNC machining leader to help drive our manufacturing operations forward. This posting covers two closely related leadership paths within our aerospace machining and assembly operation - Machine Shop Manager (production/shop-floor supervision) and Manufacturing Engineering Leader (engineering and process leadership). Both roles are built around the same core requirement: hands-on leadership experience supervising CNC machining operations in a precision aerospace environment. After we learn more about your background, we'll work with you to identify which track is the strongest fit.

Candidates with a strong record of directly supervising CNC machinists, programmers, or technical teams - whether on the shop floor or within an engineering group - are strongly encouraged to apply.

What You Might Own (Responsibilities Across Both Tracks)
  • Directly supervise CNC machinists, operators, programmers, and/or technical staff, setting clear expectations for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Own the daily production commit or engineering program deliverables for your assigned area - planning, staffing/resourcing, and executing against the schedule.
  • Provide hands-on oversight of CNC programming, tooling strategy, machine setup, and process optimization for complex, multi-axis aerospace machining.
  • Review engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
  • Lead tier/standup meetings and cross-functional coordination with Quality, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and Maintenance.
  • Support new product introduction, quoting, cycle-time estimating, and cost/process development as applicable.
  • Drive Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100 and other aerospace regulatory/quality requirements.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop team members; participate in performance management in partnership with HR.
  • Own safety performance for your team, including OSHA compliance, PPE, and area audits.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of direct supervisory or lead experience overseeing CNC machining operations - this is the core, non-negotiable requirement for both tracks.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with CNC machining, including complex multi-axis operations.
  • 5+ years of experience in precision manufacturing, with aerospace, defense, or another highly regulated environment strongly preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting aerospace engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
  • Working knowledge of production scheduling, capacity planning, and labor/resource planning.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with ERP/MES systems.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field preferred (required for the Manufacturing Engineering track).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with machining aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, castings, and billet materials.
  • Experience in an AS9100-certified facility; familiarity with AS9102 first article inspection and NCR/MRB processes.
  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma training or certification.
  • Experience leading Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) or other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supervising multi-shift operations (24/5-24/7).
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, NX, CATIA, or similar) and Microsoft Project.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting major aerospace OEM or Tier 1 customer programs.
Two Ways to Grow With Us
  • Machine Shop Manager track: first-level people-management role owning daily production commit, staffing, PTO/attendance, and shift performance for production operators and Operations Leads.
  • Manufacturing Engineering Leader track: technical leadership role owning CNC programming, process development, NPI, and program management, leading a team of engineers and technical professionals.

We'll discuss your background and career goals during the interview process to determine which track - or a hybrid of both - makes the most sense for you.
