Job summary

Spherion is seeking a Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager with a strong EMS background to drive operational efficiency, lead major improvement initiatives, and mentor a high-performing team of manufacturing and test engineers at our Frederick, MD site.

You will partner with Operations, Quality, and customers to scale capabilities, optimize front-end engineering and NPI processes, and act as a technical liaison for suppliers and OEMs.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering required.
• 7+ years in electronics manufacturing; 3+ years leading manufacturing/process engineers.
• Hands-on SMT/PCBA EMS experience; PCB design/layout, testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor manufacturing and test engineers.
• Oversee process development and drive IPC/ISO compliance.
• Serve as technical liaison for customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

Job description

Are you a Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager with a strong background in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) and SMT/PCBA process engineering? I am partnering with my client for an Engineering Manager to drive operational efficiency, lead major improvement initiatives, and mentor a high-performing team of manufacturing and test engineers. In this role, you will partner closely with our Operations Manager and Director of Quality to scale site capabilities, optimize front-end engineering and NPI processes, and serve as a primary technical liaison for customers and suppliers.

• Team Leadership: Hire, manage, and mentor manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and production services staff, fostering career development and continuous feedback.
• Process Excellence: Oversee process development and continuous improvement initiatives in compliance with IPC, ISO, and customer standards.
• Technical & Strategic Liaison: Act as the primary technical contact for customers, vendors, and OEMs, while collaborating across marketing, supply chain, PCB layout, and accounting.
• Operations Support: Address real-time manufacturing challenges (downtime, yield, quality deviations), manage labor quoting across sites, and contribute to contract/design reviews.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Education: B.S. in Engineering
• Experience: 7+ years in electronics manufacturing, preferred 3+ years managing manufacturing/process engineers.
• Technical Background: Prior hands-on experience as an SMT/PCBA Manufacturing or Process Engineer. Deep knowledge of PCBA, PCB design/layout, test services, and EMS.
• Systems Expertise: Strong proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
• Leadership Skills: Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration, team development, and driving strategic manufacturing goals.
