Job summary

Magna Exteriors seeks an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a diverse team, drive APQP milestones, and ensure compliance with IATF16949. The role requires deep automotive engineering background, strong leadership, and willingness to travel for projects and supplier collaboration.

Job Responsibilities:
General Job Duties:

  • To support all customer quality standards as well as the standards of Decostar.
  • To perform daily cross-functional job assignments as required and per the department's established procedures and work instructions.
  • Have knowledge of general workplace health and safety in regards to the general public and visitors to Decostar.
  • Ensure a spirit of respect, cooperation, ethical conduct and fair dealing in all our operations between our internal, external customers and suppliers.
Specific Job Duties:
  • To follow safety rules of Decostar and work in a manner that is conducive to maintaining a safe and healthful workplace.
  • To Understand the employee's rights under the OSHA Act, EEOC, FLSA and do not allow for discrimination against any employee exercising their rights.
  • Always use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to set good workplace standards and ensure all employees maintain those standards.
  • To follow safety rules of Decostar and work in a manner that is conducive to maintaining a safe and healthful workplace including: training of new employees, reporting unsafe acts or conditions and correcting or commending health and safety performance.
  • Ensure that all accidents or injuries are reported immediately and actively participate in the accident investigation and completion of all open action items.
  • Be a leader in the development of your Engineering team by using a mentoring and coaching philosophy to strengthen your team members with focus on providing continuous feedback and regular performance reviews.
  • Actively support succession planning initiatives to ensure future leaders are developed and ready for new challenges and opportunities within the department and the company.
  • Establish, maintain and execute your department vision, annual goals, department key performance indicators and department action plans.
  • Update, based on an established frequency, all Decostar key performance indicators and participate actively in improving the overall performance of the facility.
  • Develop, maintain and work within the established annual operating budget for the Engineering Department.
  • Ensure the engineering department is the leader for all engineering gate management activities and gate signoffs as required.
  • Ensure that all program managers utilize the gate management system and APQP processes in the management of customer programs.
  • Maintain, follow and update, as required, all processes assigned under the IATF16949 system.
  • Assist manufacturing departments in developing their Control Plans and Work Instructions in accordance with PFMEAs, Process Flows, Decostar's quality system's procedures and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and distribute all Engineering specifications and standards as received from the customer and/or other sources in order to meet APQP requirements.
  • Lead all Decostar's cross-functional APQP meetings to review open issues and activities which need to be resolved or acted upon.
  • Participate and verify the training effectiveness of departmental team members during start-up phases.
  • Assist the Supplier Quality Engineering as designated.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs and activities to ensure meeting of departmental performance objectives.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to influence behavior through positive dialogue and have strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Ability to coordinate high work volume and pressing time requirements.
  • Ten (10) or more years prior experience in an automotive manufacturing environment directly related to engineering activities.
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to travel within and outside of the U.S. is required.
  • Knowledge of PPAP / Submission process systems or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge of GD&T methods is required.
  • Knowledge of IATF16949 auditing experience is required. Exposure to international standards/engineering specifications would be an asset.
  • Proven leadership capabilities are required.
  • Knowledge of SPC, MSA, GR&R is an asset.
  • Experience in computer skills such as Microsoft Word or Excel.
  • Fluent in English, German (preferably) or Japanese (reading and writing).
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required. (10+ years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree)
Physical Requirements:
  • This position requires a person to have the ability to perform work while sitting for up to eight (8) hours on a continuous basis.
  • This position requires a person to have the ability to stand, walk or climb stairs a minimum of eight (8) hours on a continuous basis.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis and 50 pounds on an infrequent basis.
  • Good vision at a close distance as well as color acuity is required.
  • Must be capable of performing a full range of repetitive motion for up to eight (8) hours a day.
Training Requirements:

You will receive training to perform your job on an on-going basis concurrent with Decostar business operations. Training areas will include safety, quality, continuous improvement and other job specific training that is determined to be an essential part of your job and Decostar business operations.
