Job summary

Magna in Georgia seeks a skilled maintenance technician. You will perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, including PLCs, robotics, and 480V distribution. A state electrician license is required, with an associate degree or equivalent experience.

You will follow TPM plans, safety protocols, and participate in continuous improvement teams. You must read electrical schematics and diagrams, troubleshoot drives, motors, and pumps, and support equipment

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical equivalent required; six years experience may substitute.
  • GA State Licensed Non-Restricted Electrician required.
  • Strong ability to read schematics, ladder logic and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, sensors, and mechanical drives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance per TPM; maintain logs and data.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems including PLCs and robotics.
  • Inspect, repair, rebuild, and replace pumps, valves and bearings.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance team to improve equipment reliability.

Report any unsafe conditions immediately, including injuries, accidents, illnesses, and property damage.Cooperate with OSHA/State Osha inspectors.Make sure you are trained on any machinery or equipment that you are to use.Do no use, operate or make changes to any equipment or machinery that may endanger any persons, including yourself.Specific Job Duties:Support process and maintenance activities consistent with departmental expectations and goals.Identify, communicate and document any difficulties relating to the product, process and/or quality system as per Decostars IATF 16949 directives.Initiate, recommend or provide solutions to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the product, process and/or quality system through designated channels.Verify implementation and effectiveness of recommended solutions. Participate in control plan updates as per IATF 16949 protocol.Develop, implement, verify and document parameter settings for all application equipment to maintain the specified quality standards detailed in the control plans of all products.Work with equipment suppliers to accurately collect application and performance data on new technology tested in the process.Complete all maintenance as directed in the total productive maintenance plan to ensure optimum performance of the equipment.Maintain organized daily logs of all maintenance activities, process parameter data and verification records.Actively participate in continuous improvement teams as assigned by the Maintenance manager.Must be able to work any shift, weekends and overtime.Train personnel as directed by the department leadership in the implementation of the specified preventative maintenance methods in accordance to the control plans established.Report all accidents, injuries, and near misses immediately.Perform other duties as assigned by the department leadership.Educational Requirements:Associate’s Degree in a related and technical field of study required. Six years work related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree. Work experience combined with current schooling towards degree will be considered.Must be GA State Licensed Non-Restricted Electrician.Must be computer literate on the Windows platform.Skills and Experience:Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, control prints, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, assembly prints, equipment manuals, exploded views, and spare parts diagrams.Experience troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, including PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, servo drives, encoders, photoeyes, proximity sensors, limit switches, pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and automated manufacturing equipment.Knowledge of 480V/3-phase power distribution, control circuits, transformers, relays, contactors, overload protection, and industrial electrical safety systems.Experience with industrial robotics, robot controllers, teach pendants, I/O modules, safety interlocks, and automated production equipment.Preventive and predictive maintenance experience on pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, fans, blowers, ovens, chillers, compressors, paint application equipment, and related manufacturing systems.Experience with mechanical drive systems including belts, chains, sprockets, pulleys, couplings, shafts, gear reducers, and precision alignment procedures.Ability to inspect, repair, rebuild, and replace pumps, valves, seals, bearings, cylinders, actuators, and other electrical and mechanical assemblies.Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, fluid handling, and process control systems, including troubleshooting pressure, flow, temperature, level, and air system issues.Experience with conveyor systems, including chain conveyors, belt conveyors, drive units, take-ups, rollers, bearings, and tracking/alignment adjustments.Ability to perform precision maintenance activities including shaft alignment, bearing installation, torque procedures, equipment leveling, and machine setup.Knowledge of electrical and mechanical preventive maintenance practices, including panel inspections, thermal imaging support, lubrication routes, vibration checks, filter changes, belt tension checks, and equipment condition monitoring.Familiarity with HMI operation, alarm troubleshooting, machine interface diagnostics, instrumentation, and industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, or similar systems.Ability to use electrical testing devices, hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, pullers, hydraulic presses, lifting equipment, and rigging equipment safely and effectively.Welding, fabrication, cutting, grinding, drilling, tapping, and basic machining skills preferred.Ability to perform root cause analysis on electrical and mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and overall operational performance.Strong understanding of lockout/tagout procedures, stored energy control, machine guarding, arc flash awareness, NFPA 70E requirements, OSHA regulations, and safe maintenance practices.Strong understanding of electrical code compliance, safe installation practices, and maintenance standards for industrial equipment.Physical RequirementsThis position requires a person to have the ability to perform work while standing or walking a minimum of eight (8) hours a day, the ability to lift up to 20 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis, and the ability to perform work that is below the knees and above the shoulders on an occasional basis. Ability to climb stairs is necessary. Ability to wear a respirator is necessary. Good vision at a close distance is required.
