Qualified Professional and Technical is seeking an Engineering Leader / Technical CNC Machinist in Redford, MI to support new program launches across 20 CNC machines including HMCs, pallet pool systems, CNC lathes, and 5-axis mills.

The role is hands-on, requiring advanced machining knowledge, development of machining strategies, fixtures, PFMEA, and process improvements while mentoring engineers and machinists. PPAP timelines and tight tolerances are typical.

Formación

• 3+ years of CAD and drawing experience.
• 5+ years CNC machining experience, including setup and operation.
• 3+ years of fixture design experience for medium to high volume projects.
• Strong proficiency in hydraulic clamping design for automated systems.
• 3+ years of experience selecting and designing cutting tools.
• Experience with PCD tooling is a plus.
• Experience integrating automation into CNC cells (PLC, HMI, tooling).
• 5 axis production machining of aluminum die castings is a plus.

Responsabilidades

• Provide hands-on support for part launches and production issue troubleshooting.
• Design and lead the manufacture of machining fixtures for mill, lathe, and CMM applications.
• Develop PFMEA documentation for new product launches and partner with Quality to finalize control plans.
• Create in-process check procedures, work instructions, and tooling specs.

• Develop corrective actions and engineering changes as needed.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying efficiency gains and tooling upgrades.
• Mentor junior engineers and machinists to strengthen production support.
• Train operators to reduce production errors and downtime.
• Establish tool life standards and drive tooling improvement projects.

ENGINEERING LEADER / TECHNICAL CNC MACHINIST

Job Type: Direct Hire

Location: Redford, MI

A growing manufacturing company is seeking an Engineering Leader / Technical CNC Machinist to support new program launches and optimize current jobs across 20 CNC machines, including Horizontal Mills, 32 Pallet Pool Milling Systems, CNC Lathes, and 5 Axis twin spindle mills. This position is ideal for a hands on leader with advanced machining knowledge and strong technical CNC experience. The right person will have experience developing machining strategies, including process and tooling drawings, work holding, and inspection methods for precision machined parts made from forgings and castings. Tight tolerances of 0.001 and complex GD&T and true position requirements are standard. Most part programs run from 1,000 to 12,000 machining hours per year, so experience with medium volume production, process development, and fixturing is important. Automation experience is a plus.

• Provide hands on support for part launches and production issue troubleshooting, including program, fixture, tooling, and process adjustments
• Design and lead the manufacture of machining fixtures for mill, lathe, assembly, and CMM applications using hydraulic, manual, and pneumatic systems
• Develop processing and PFMEA documentation for new product launches and partner with Quality to finalize control plans
• Create in process check procedures, work instructions, and tooling specifications for new and existing programs
• Execute product launches to meet PPAP timelines
• Develop corrective actions, investigate root causes, and implement engineering changes as needed
• Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying efficiency gains, developing proposals, and overseeing improved procedures and equipment installations
• Mentor junior engineers and machinists to strengthen production support and process improvement efforts
• Train operators to reduce production errors and downtime
• Establish tool life standards and drive tooling improvement projects for new and existing programs

Qualifications

• 3+ years of CAD and drawing experience
• 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup and operation
• 3+ years of fixture design experience for medium to high volume projects, including drawings
• Strong proficiency in hydraulic clamping design for automated or semi automated part loading
• 3+ years of experience selecting and designing cutting tools, including custom tools
• PCD tooling experience is a plus
• Experience integrating automation into CNC machining cells is a plus, including PLC programming, automation design, HMI programming, and end of arm tooling design
• Experience with 5 axis production machining of aluminum die castings is a plus
