Job summary

South Texas College is seeking a Lab Assistant for the Physics Department to support engineering labs and ensure EPA/OSHA/GHS safety compliance. Responsibilities include assisting instructors, preparing materials, maintaining inventories, and keeping facilities in safe, orderly condition.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma or GED with science coursework; strong communication and computer skills are required. Flexibility to work evenings/weekends may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; College Certificate or 8 college hours in science preferred.
• Knowledge of EPA/OSHA/GHS guidelines helpful.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
• Familiarity with a science laboratory and safety procedures expected.

Responsibilities

• Assist lab instructors during regular labs.
• Prepare reagents and carts with lab materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory and operation records.
• Assist with routine repairs and notify for warranty/major repairs.
• Maintain lab safety and security of equipment.
• Keep lab rooms clean and orderly.
• Perform clerical duties as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
