Job summary

DOTD in New Orleans seeks an Engineer to support roadway design and project development. Training is provided with opportunities for career progression through the Engineer Intern series.

The position reports to Engineer 6 and is located in District 02—Unit 170, New Orleans. Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate is required; note this is a temporary appointment while the certificate is pursued, with potential for future status changes as allowed by the State Civil Service.

Responsibilities

• Performs or assists with roadway design and project development activities.
• Prepares, reviews, or edits roadway plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, and design documentation.
• Supports geometric design, plan development, design studies, or transportation improvement projects.
• Coordinates with project teams, consultants, districts, utility representatives, and other stakeholders.
• Reviews project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with DOTD standards and procedures.
• Uses engineering software and design tools to support project development.
• Provides technical assistance related to roadway design, project delivery, or plan review.
• Supports emergency or disaster response activities as needed.
