Job summary

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) offers a paid engineering internship for full-time college students from June to August 2027 in the Central Office in downtown RVA or at the Lockwood Office, supporting Keep Virginia Moving.

Interns gain hands-on experience in Construction, Structure and Bridge, Materials, and the Research Council, with guided work that connects classroom theory to real-world practice.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time in an Associate’s degree program or higher.
• Have a basic knowledge of engineering principles.
• Must be at least 18 years old by the start of employment.
• Must maintain a full-time undergraduate or graduate status for the duration of the internship.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with VDOT staff and external contacts to resolve issues.
• Apply engineering technology principles to assigned program areas.
• Perform routine maintenance and handling of testing equipment.
• Prepare and maintain daily project documentation.
• Maintain accurate records and data entry for project activities.
