The City of Peoria’s Development and Engineering Department/Engineering Services Division has an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Inspector to serve as a liaison between contractors, developers, utility companies, and other City departments and staff. The position involves performing journey-level work in inspecting development projects, construction of various City infrastructure projects, and non-City utilities. This includes inspecting workmanship and materials, and ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and departmental regulations.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in civil inspections, monitoring construction activities, and performing acceptance testing in the construction industry
  • Knowledge in temporary traffic control, stormwater pollution prevention, and field-testing soils, concrete, and asphalt materials
  • Experience working in a municipal or government setting

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma plus additional coursework (equivalent to up to 1 year at a Community College or similar in knowledge and abilities)

Experience:

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience. Considerable previous experience in similar roles required.

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy physical exertion required; lifting between 25 and 50 pounds.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Arizona Class “D” Driver’s License upon hire
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) required within one year of hire in the area of assignment
