The Miami HEAT is hiring an Engineering Helper to oversee maintenance, operation, and repair of furniture, fixtures, basic electrical items, etc., including painting, carpentry, minor electrical work, plumbing, and welding.

The role supports the Engineering and Operations teams, performing repairs, keeping logs, operating light equipment, and assisting with event conversions; candidates should be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance and repair tasks in a facilities environment.
  • Understanding of basic electrical, plumbing and carpentry principles.
  • Ability to read and follow maintenance procedures and safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance, operation, and repair of furniture, fixtures, basic electrical items, etc.
  • Perform painting, patching, re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, and other repairs as needed.
  • Record and log all work, complete work orders, and report safety concerns promptly.
  • Operate light equipment such as trucks, pallet jacks, and scrubbing machines.
  • Assist in event conversions and support other departments as needed.

Job description

The Miami HEAT Engineering department is hiring an Engineering Helper to oversee the maintenance, operation, and repair of furniture, fixtures, basic electrical items, etc. Performs skilled and semi-skilled duties, including painting, carpentry, minor electrical work, plumbing, and welding.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to the items on this list:

  • Assist in the repairs of all bowl seating, furniture, and plumbing items including toilets, sinks, water fountains, drainage pipes and sprinkler systems;
  • Assist with replacing and installing all doors, locks, windows and building hardware;
  • Assists in the repairs, replacing and rebuilding of various items, such as motors, compressors and ice machines;
  • Follow the preventive maintenance program, energy management program and standard operating procedures for all machinery and equipment;
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, patching, re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, pavers, floor tiles, filters and belts as required;
  • Record and log all work performed, complete work order slips, and compile all required reports in a timely and complete manner through the building maintenance work order system;
  • Operate equipment, such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment;
  • Assist other Operations Department divisions to expedite event conversions, as needed;
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, damage, loss of property, and safety concerns promptly to supervisor;
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed;
  • Assist co-workers in the Engineering and Operations departments with projects.

Education and/or Experience:
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of painting anticipated at the facility.
