Job summary

FM Global in Parsippany, NJ offers a Consultant Engineer Internship to participate in training and field work that supports risk assessment and loss prevention. You will shadow engineers, learn COPE fundamentals, and participate in hands-on site assessments at commercial properties.

Successful interns will engage in special projects, gain cross-department exposure, and develop practical engineering knowledge while commuting to Malvern, PA as needed.

Qualifications

• Plan to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or fire protection.
• Ability to work full-time during the summer internship.
• Strong verbal and written communications.
• Good analytical, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Efficient time management skills; inquisitive with minimal supervision.
• Solid technical aptitude and MS Office familiarity.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle access for internship travels.
• Willingness to commute to Malvern, PA for internship duration.

Responsibilities

• Participate in FM training to learn construction, COPE, and risk assessment.
• Observe and learn fire protection systems fundamentals.
• Shadow FM Field Engineers on site visits to commercial properties.
• Review equipment operation and potential loss hazards.
• Communicate basic recommendations to clients for risk improvements.
• Document risk analyses of visited locations.
• Lead a technical project as assigned by FM Supervisors.
• Shadow professionals across departments to gain holistic understanding.
