Job summary

SkillSetGroup is seeking a Welding & Sheet Metal Engineering/Estimating Manager to work in the North Orange County area. This position will oversee engineering, estimating, planning & production of fabricated metal enclosures, turning customer designs into accurate quotes and reliable production plans.

You will work closely with customers, engineering, estimating, and the shop floor throughout the life of a program.

Qualifications

• 10 years of practical experience in sheet metal fabrication or similar contract manufacturing.
• Knowledge of laser cutting, punching, press brake forming, welding, hardware installation, assembly.
• Substantial experience preparing estimates and costing fabricated sheet metal products.
• Hands-on manufacturing engineering and design for manufacturability experience.
• Ability to evaluate drawings, CAD models, tolerances, and specifications; SolidWorks or similar required.
• Experience developing labor standards, routings, material plans, and production sequences.
• Experience guiding work from RFQ through production ramp and ongoing manufacturing.
• Comfort discussing design and manufacturing questions directly with customers and on the production floor.

Responsibilities

Job description

SkillSetGroup is seeking a Welding & Sheet Metal Engineering/Estimating Manager to work in the North Orange County area. This position will be responsible for overseeing engineering, estimating, planning & production of fabricated metal enclosures. This role will turn customer designs into accurate quotes and reliable production plans: working closely with customers, engineering, estimating, and the shop floor throughout the life of a program. The chosen candidate must have experience with hands-on DFM and strong background in process engineering for welding and sheet metal fabrication. Experience with build-to-print project management is also a must. This is a hands-on manufacturing enigineering role, while also leading a small team of engineers. This will be a 1st shift and a DIRECT HIRE opportunity.

Hours: 7AM-430PM

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of practical experience in sheet metal fabrication, precision metal fabrication, or a comparable contract manufacturing setting.
• Working knowledge of laser cutting, punching, press brake forming, welding, hardware installation, assembly, and outsourced processes.
• Substantial experience preparing estimates and costing fabricated sheet metal products.
• Hands-on manufacturing engineering and design for manufacturability experience, including the ability to identify issues in drawings or models and develop repeatable ways to produce the parts.
• Ability to evaluate engineering drawings, CAD models, tolerances, and specifications. Experience with SolidWorks or a similar 3D CAD platform is required.
• Experience developing labor standards, routings, material plans, process sequences, and production plans while accounting for work-center capacity.
• Experience guiding work from RFQ and first article through production ramp and ongoing manufacturing.
• Confidence discussing design and manufacturing questions directly with customers, along with a willingness to spend significant time on the production floor.
