Job summary

Ducommun, Inc. seeks a Designer I (Engineering Drafter) to assist the engineering design team by executing simple ECOs, updating drawings, and creating basic 3D models and 2D drawings. You will validate supplier changes and support testing and technical reporting under supervision.

The role requires attention to detail and the ability to follow technical instructions. The position reports to the Design Engineering leader at the Carson, CA site and offers hourly compensation.

Qualifications

• Proficient in CAD drafting and able to create/modify 2D drawings and 3D parts.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and assembly instructions with accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication; follow technical instructions.
• Experience following established procedures and ECO processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic mechanical design and drafting using SolidWorks or approved CAD software.
• Create/modify simple 3D parts, assemblies under engineering guidance.
• Prepare 2D drawings with dimensions, notes, views and details.
• Execute simple ECOs based on engineering instructions.
• Update drawings and BOMs with engineering changes.
• Review drawings/models for accuracy and compliance with requirements.
• Maintain organized CAD files and document control practices.
• Update specifications and related documentation as needed.
• Support obsolescence and supplier-change documentation.
• Conduct validation testing under supervision and record results.
• Communicate with Engineering, Manufacturing and Quality.
• Assist in other engineering activities as assigned.

Designer I (Engineering Drafter)

The Engineering
Drafter supports Engineering design team by executing simple ECO for drawing
updates, documentation updates, simple 3D modeling and 2D creation. Position is
responsible for obsolescence and change of supplier validation, running testing
and preparing technical report for engineering to validate.
This position
requires design skills, attention to detail and the ability to follow technical
instructions under Engineering guidance. When Engineering workload is low, the
technician may support build of engineering prototypes and testing. This role
reports to the Design Engineering leader.

Job Summary

• Perform basic mechanical design and drafting activities using SolidWorks or other approved CAD software.
  
• Create and modify simple 3D parts, assemblies, and models under Engineering guidance.
  
• Create and revise 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, notes, views, and other required details.
  
• Execute simple Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) based on Engineering instructions and approved redlines.
  
• Incorporate engineering changes into drawings, models, and related documentation.
  
• Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with provided engineering requirements.
  
• Maintain organized CAD files and follow established file naming, revision, and document-control practices.
  
• Update BOMs, drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
  
• Maintain accurate revisions and engineering records.
  
• Support product obsolescence and supplier-change documentation.
  
• Organize and perform assigned validation testing under Engineering supervision.
  
• Record test conditions, measurements, observations, and results.
  
• Identify and communicate discrepancies or unexpected results.
  
• Compile test data and prepare technical reports for Engineering review.
  
• Maintain testing and validation records.
  
• Communicate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.
  
• Perform other Engineering activities as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Required Experience and Education

Base Compensation: USD 25.00 - 35.00
