Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead multiple teams delivering customer-facing web and mobile apps, microservices, and backend Java/Big Data platforms. You will shape engineering practices and stay on top of tech trends.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with product managers, deploy to AWS, drive agility, and build scalable, resilient solutions while fostering innovation and diversity across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering
• At least 7 years of experience in people management
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering (preferred)
• 13+ years of experience in software engineering (preferred)
• 8+ years of experience in Agile practices (preferred)
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Work across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across a full-stack
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with new technologies, and mentor others
• Encourage innovation and diversity, and improve team velocity
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
• Break existing monolithic applications into microservices and build new microservices
