Job summary

Wheeler Staffing Partners seeks an experienced Engineering Director to lead design and commissioning for a growing organization. The role oversees multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensures project delivery, maintains client relationships, and supports business development.

Based in Orlando, FL (onsite with some travel up to 30%), the position requires PE license, PMI certification, a Bachelor’s degree, and 5+ years of PM leadership in engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • PMI Project Management certification required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of project management experience within engineering design or commissioning.
  • Prior leadership experience managing engineering and commissioning teams across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering design, commissioning processes, project management, and building systems.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and decision‑making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to clients and executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering design and commissioning teams to deliver projects that meet client requirements, quality standards, budgets, and schedules.
  • Direct project managers, engineers, commissioning agents, commissioning technicians, and other technical staff.
  • Assign projects based on team expertise, workload, and project requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, commissioning plans, specifications, and technical documentation for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client expectations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and key stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts by participating in client presentations, proposal development, and marketing initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance management for engineering and commissioning staff.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve operational processes and project execution.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, operational efficiencies, and business growth.

Location: Orlando, FL or Salt Lake City, UT (Relocation Assistance Available)

Employment Type: Full‑Time – Direct Hire

Work Arrangement: Primarily Onsite • Schedule: Monday–Friday • Travel: Approximately 30% regional (reimbursed)

Compensation: $115,000–$155,000 annually (DOE) • Discretionary annual bonus • $80/month phone allowance
