Job summary

Akima Facilities Operations (AFO) seeks an Engineering Director to serve as the senior SIMO technical expert and lead all design and maintenance engineering for FSEU systems. You will guide NASA-led efforts, ensure safety, reliability, and maintainability, and manage engineering and project management functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
• 20+ years in the respective discipline.
• 10+ years leading teams responsible for contract-wide engineering functions (O&M of large infrastructure and hazardous systems).
• Familiarity with KSC operations, programs, and launch activities.

Responsibilities

• Assess and validate FSEU to ensure safety, reliability, and performance specifications and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure engineering team supports NASA-led efforts for corrective actions.
• Oversee SIMO tasks in design, analysis, construction, supervision, inspection, and engineering services (SIES).
• Support Engineering Review Board and Configuration Control Board activities.
• Verify compliance with LCAT standards and provide guidance aligned with NASA engineering standards.
• Review technical work, guide approaches, and analyze system designs.
• Serve as senior technical representative for reviews and advisory boards (safety, quality, risk).
• Support NASA technical, program, and planning reviews as needed.

Job description

The Engineering Director serves as the senior SIMO technical expert and resident authority for all FSEU design and system/maintenance engineering requirements, and manages all assigned SIMO engineering and project management functions. Ensures safety, reliability, and maintainability of new and existing FSEU through performing, or effectively supporting NASA-led efforts, as required to ensure effective design, construction management, and reliability best practices. Responsible for reliability centered maintenance strategy development and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Assess and validate FSEU to ensure safety, reliability, and performance specifications, operational constraints, launch induced environments, site conditions, and compliance with energy/environmental regulations.
• Ensure engineering team properly performs or supports NASA-led efforts to assess conditions, identify potential failures, determine causes, and issue corrective actions.
• Oversee SIMO assigned tasks in support of NASA-led engineering and project management activities, which may include design, analysis, construction, supervision, inspection, and engineering services (SIES).
• Responsible for supporting Engineering Review Board and Configuration Control Board activities for contractor-led designs.
• Verify compliance with LCAT standards.
• Provide guidance and decisions aligned with NASA and professional engineering standards.
• Review technical work for compliance, guide technical approaches, and analyze system designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil, or structural engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural).
• 20+ years in the respective discipline.
• 10+ years leading teams responsible for contract-wide engineering functions related to O&M of large infrastructure and hazardous systems.
• Familiarity with KSC operations, programs, and launch activities.

Desired Qualification:

• Additional certifications such as PMP, Certified Facility Manager from IFMA, orICS.
• CMRP, OSHA 30 certifications preferred.
