Job summary

CPL is seeking an Engineering Designer I in New York to support licensed engineers and multidisciplinary teams across planning, design, and delivery of regional projects. This entry-level role develops technical knowledge while performing engineering and design tasks under supervision.

You will assist with site visits, create and modify 2D/3D drawings, research codes, and support calculations and project docs. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, Revit/Open Roads and MS Office are essential.

Qualifications

  • AS or BS in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent education/experience
  • 0–2 years civil engineering experience (internships included)
  • Basic to moderately difficult technical computations
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, Revit and/or Open Roads; proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions

As the Engineering Designer I, you will provide technical support to licensed engineers and multidisciplinary project teams throughout the planning, design, and delivery of regional industrial, commercial, and municipal development projects. Working under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer or Project Manager, this entry-level position performs a variety of engineering and design tasks while developing technical knowledge and practical experience.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include assisting with site visits and field inspections, preparing and modifying 2D and 3D engineering drawings and models, researching applicable agency codes, standards, and permitting requirements, and supporting the preparation of engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and other project documentation. The Engineering Designer I works under close supervision on small projects or assigned portions of larger, moderately complex projects and collaborates with engineers and other multidisciplinary team members to support successful project execution.

What You Will Do
  • Collects data and gathers information or documents
  • Use AutoCAD for pretty much everything – like preparing engineering plans, drawings and models
  • Research, evaluate and execute appropriate engineering techniques and code provisions for a wide range of projects with unique needs
  • Prepares drawings and visual aids
  • Observes and reports on construction activities
  • Compile maps, reports, and forms
What You Bring Must Haves
  • You earned an AS or BS in Civil Engineering or a related field (congrats!) – or have an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • You have 0-2 years of civil engineering experience (including internships)
  • You can perform basic to moderately difficult technical computations
  • You have a working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D, Revit and/or Open Roads, and you’re proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office
  • You can comprehend and carry out oral or written instructions
Nice to Have
  • An EIT or NICET certification is a plus
  • An understanding of construction plans/specifications and their application to public works projects is a major plus

The rate for this position generally ranges between $30.00- $37.00 hourly. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
