Qualifications

Dimensions:

The corporate office in Fridley is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Designer and Drafter to join the engineering department. The individual will both improve and maintain engineering documentation along with supporting product development.

Summary Statement:

With general guidance from management the candidate will support both new and past designs. While using modern engineering practices and FEA stress analysis when required. Improve and modernize engineering documentation. Support transition from paper and 2D CAD to 3D CAD via SolidWorks. Provide manufacturing support and implement product improvements. Assist in new product development.

Major Areas of Accountability:

1.Product Development, Design, Testing and Final Design for Manufacturing:

• Assist in development of new products based on prior designs, application information and current engineering technology.
• Develop and design equipment and equipment upgrades based on FEA technology.
• Product refinement of current product offerings as assigned.
• Perform hands-on testing in our R&D facility and analyze the results.
• Update and improve product design based on current and future manufacturing capabilities.
• Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, and other Engineers on new product development.
• Assist in creation of customer specific documentation.
• Maintain and improve manuals and supporting documentation.
• Assist sales with customer issues and specialty projects.
• Source products and equipment to meet customer requirements.
• Directly work with customers in the field.
• Convert paper and 2D drawings into functional 3D models and assemblies via SolidWorks.
• Modernize and improve documentation for both engineering drawings and reference material.
• Develop and implement ECO’s to support new and existing products.
• Create new models, drawings, and assemblies.
• Develop new company specific engineering and manufacturing standards.
• Support transition from legacy CAD programs to SolidWorks.
• Expand and improve existing SolidWorks parts library.

4.Manufacturing Support:

• Assist in resolving fabrication issues within the factory.
• Work directly with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure effective production of components.
• Work directly with the shop floor on new designs and ECO requirements.
• Assist purchasing with sourcing alternative materials to resolve supply conflicts.
• Assist Manufacturing in improving the efficiency of product production.

5.ROI System Configuration of Machines and Parts:

• Manage past and new machines along with part configurations in the system.
• Manage overall structure of machine configurations and price book configuration.
• Create new part documentation and product structure.
• Update existing product structures where necessary.

6.Operate the Following Software:

• KeyCreator
• DraftSight
• Manage 2000
• FileMaker Pro
• Microsoft Office
• New software as required

Equipment Used:

Uses a computer, software, and general office equipment. Use of all machines of their assigned division for testing and machine start up.

Work is primarily in an office environment with frequent exposure to a plant and test lab environments. Offsite start up conditions will be dependent on product development and product specials.Occasional foreign travel will be required to customer locations and sales calls to local customers are expected.

Physical Requirements:

A Strength and movement:Work requires frequent reaching and keyboard use. There is frequent movement within the facility to communicate with staff.

B Sensory ability:Vision must be sufficient to read words, numbers and detailed diagrams on paper and/or computer screens.

C Communication:Verbal communication occurs frequently with staff from other departments and customers.

D Level of exertion:Work is light, requiring exertion of up to 15 pounds of force occasionally to move equipment or materials. During final assembly there may be extended periods of standing, bending and squatting. Use of a ladder can be expected.

E Heights:On occasion it is expected that there will be exposure to elevations of approximately 20 feet above ground.

Mental Requirements:

• Reading Ability:The position requires the ability to read technical, contractual and commercial text of considerable difficulty.
• Writing:Writing skills are required at a level consistent with persuasive communication. Some technical writing will be required.
• Verbal Skills:Verbal communication needs to be at a level consistent with providing explanations on technical matters. Some diplomacy is required when interacting with customers.
• Reasoning Ability:Reasoning ability needs to be at a level consistent with solving difficult problems and to identify where facts may be insufficient or misleading, requiring extensive inquiry or research extending into all work areas.Solutions require integration of information and considerable independent judgment.

Employment Selection Criteria:

This position requires a moderate degree of technical knowledge and skill with a minimum mechanical engineering degree with a background in mechanical, industrial, process applications. A minimum of 3-4 years of applied engineering experience in drafting and design is a must. Experience with process equipment is very desirable in either the agribusiness or petrochemical industry. Presentation of past designs and projects should be presented at time of interview.
