Job summary

Cone Drive Operations, a Timken company, in Traverse City, MI, is seeking an Engineering Designer to create detailed engineering drawings for precision gearing products and assemblies. You will interpret customer inputs, ensure manufacturability, and collaborate with engineers to meet cost targets.

The role requires 2D/3D CAD proficiency (Solid Edge preferred or SolidWorks), GD&T knowledge, and MS Office skills. Associate degree in product design or equivalent is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent in product design or related field.
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD design (Solid Edge preferred, SolidWorks acceptable).
  • Familiar with GD&T and MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet design schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Design and detail engineering drawings for precision gearing products and assemblies.
  • Ensure accuracy and meet project due dates under supervision.
  • Interpret design inputs from customers and engineers to meet requirements.
  • Review designs for manufacturability, cost targets, and assembly ease.
  • Adhere to design standards, ECN processes, and drawings release.
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure functional, quality and cost targets.
  • Participate in design and project reviews as required.
  • Coordinate with sales, purchasing and manufacturing to optimize designs.
  • Ensure BOMs comply with customer requirements.

The Engineering Designer prepares engineering designs and detailed drawings for products and/or customer specific product applications.

Responsibilities
  • Designs and details engineering drawings for Cone Drive’s precision gearing products, assemblies, and components.
  • Ensures accuracy of work and adheres to project due dates as communicated by the design staff leader or project manager.
  • Interprets design requirements obtained from customer drawings, design input documentation, and input from Product Development Engineers, Application Engineers, and Sales Representatives
  • Reviews designs for compliance with customer requirements, manufacturability and ease of assembly.
  • Adheres to approved design standards, change management (ECN) procedures, and drawing release processes.
  • Works with Application Engineers and/or Product Development Engineers to ensure that designs meet functional, quality and cost targets.
  • Participates in design and project reviews as required.
  • Works with sales, purchasing, and manufacturing to optimize designs for meeting customer requirements.
  • Ensures completed bills of material comply to customer requirements.
Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in product design or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD Design; Solid Edge (preferred) or Solid Works
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Products including MS Excel, MS Word & MS PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Preferred
  • One year design experience

This position may require access to United States export controlled technical data (“CTD”) and hardware under the Departments of US State (ITAR) and/or Commerce (EAR). Eligible candidates are; US Citizens, Green Card holders, Asylees or others eligible to receive US export license authorizations. Candidate must be authorized to work in the US.
