Job summary
Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a Design Manager in the Propulsion & Reactor Engineering Planning Yard to lead the design, maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of propulsion plants for Nimitz and Ford class vessels. The role focuses on 2D drawings and model files to support new construction and class-wide maintenance.
The manager will oversee designers, collaborate with NAVSEA and shipyard partners, and ensure deliverables meet schedules and specifications.
Qualifications
- Design Apprentice cert or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience
Responsibilities
- Design major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
- Lead a design management team for Hull Outfitting commodities supporting naval fleet readiness
- Coordinate with NAVSEA, NNL and shipyard teams; develop 2D Drawings and 3D Model Files (ShipAlts)
