Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. Newport News Shipbuilding seeks a Design Manager to lead the Propulsion & Reactor Engineering Planning Yard design team responsible for Hull Outfitting commodities and class-wide projects.

You will develop 2D drawings and model files to support new construction and modernization efforts. The role requires a degree plus progressive supervisory experience, with strong leadership and collaboration across NAVSEA, NNL, and shipyard partners.

Qualifications

Design Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus 4 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience.
Master's degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years of applicable experience.

Responsibilities

Lead design personnel in the design and maintenance of naval vessels and related processes.
Oversee development and delivery of 2D drawings and Model Files for ship construction and modernization efforts.
Coordinate with NAVSEA, NNL, fleet customers, and upstream/downstream stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate designs.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships across departments and shipyards.
Guide use of NX, TeamCenter, SAP, i2, and related tools to produce compliant deliverables.
