Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding offers a summer internship program to gain experience in technical or administrative roles within the shipyard that designs, builds, and refuels U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines.

Interns work 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks during the summer, with the potential to transition to full-time employment. Some positions may require access to shipboard facilities and other sites, and applicants must meet citizenship, GPA, and background-check

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old before start (Mid-May)
• Enrolled in a degreed program supporting the company’s business requirements
• Typically study Electrical, Mechanical, Civil/Structural Engineering, Business, Management, Accounting, or Economics/Finance
• Completed at least one year of coursework by May
• Minimum GPA 3.0; official transcripts required
• Attend a college/university in fall following the internship
• Criminal background check and hair follicle drug screen required
• 40-hour work week for minimum 10 weeks during the summer
• Provide school name, degree program, major, anticipated graduation date, current academic level, GPA, and relatives employed at Newport News Shipbuilding
• Adequate email address required for applying and communication
• Some positions may require access to shipboard/work sites
