Job summary

D.S. Brown Company, a Gibraltar Industries Company, invites engineering students to join the Fall 2026 on-site co-op in North Baltimore, Ohio.

This full-time program offers three 15-week rotations across Engineering, Operations and Estimating to connect design, production planning and supplier collaboration. Participants gain hands-on exposure to product life cycle, learn how drawings translate to production, and contribute to safety, quality and process improvements while rotating through

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks is required.
  • Good geometry and trigonometry skills.
  • Understanding of product purchase, machining, fabrication and production processes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in engineering design reviews and project planning.
  • Assist in cost estimation and understanding how estimates affect schedules and pricing.
  • Shadow operations, purchasing/planning, and supplier interactions during rotations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement discussions and problem solving.

The Opportunity

The D.S. Brown Company, a Gibraltar Industries Company, is a world‑wide leader in engineered products for the bridge and highway industry. Founded in 1890 and headquartered in North Baltimore, Ohio, the company serves bridge and pavement contractors, specialty subcontractors, and construction product distributors. The Engineering Co‑Op Program provides hands‑on exposure to product life cycle, with rotations in Engineering, Estimating, Operations, and Purchasing/Planning to strengthen understanding of design impact on manufacturability, material requirements, and production outcomes.

This cross‑functional structure enables students to contribute to departmental priorities while gaining real‑world understanding of the journey from concept and design to production, planning, and supply chain.

The position is for a Fall 2026 on‑site co‑op in North Baltimore, OH.

What You’ll Do

Program Structure

  • 1st Term – Engineering (15 weeks)
    • Estimate: 2 weeks – shadow Estimating Technicians; learn cost‑estimation, use RFIs, support entry‑level engineering tasks, and understand estimating influence on schedules and pricing.
    • Engineering: 13 weeks – shadow engineers during design reviews and project planning; learn how drawings and specifications translate to production; support entry‑level engineering tasks; participate in problem‑solving, continuous improvement, supplier, customer, or site visits.
  • 2nd Term – Operations (15 weeks)
    • Purchasing/Planning: 2 weeks – shadow Production Planners, Buyers, and the Supply‑Chain Manager; observe vendor communication; learn lead times and inventory controls.
    • Operations: 13 weeks – tour each production area; operate selected machines; observe product flow; review process outputs; participate in safety, quality, and process improvement discussions.
  • 3rd Term – Your Choice (15 weeks)
    • Engineering – advanced project engineering duties, drawing updates, project planning, and cross‑functional discussions.
    • Operations – ownership of operational initiatives, root‑cause analysis, continuous improvement, safety, and collaboration with maintenance.
    • Estimating – advanced cost‑estimating, take‑offs, RFIs to customers/owners, and material pricing.

Rotations are designed to provide a clear learning progression. Employees may also undertake other duties as assigned.

What We Need

Education: Bachelor’s degree (in progress) in Civil, Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Good geometry and trigonometry skills.
  • Basic understanding of product purchase, machining, fabrication, and production processes.
