Job summary

Koch is seeking an Engineering Co-op in Michigan to gain hands-on experience in automotive product development. You will assist design engineers, use NX CAD, and participate in DFMEA/FEA analyses while learning to apply engineering principles in a professional setting.

You will work onsite in Rochester Hills 15–25 hours per week, contributing to documentation, designs, and test analysis with mentorship to build practical engineering skills.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to automotive product development.
  • Shows initiative and creativity to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Document project scope, requirements, feasibility, and work plans under supervision.
  • Contribute to concept development with manufacturing, cost, and customer inputs.
  • Collaborate on DFMEA/FEA, tolerance analysis, and other studies with guidance.
  • Use NX CAD to create product models and GD&T drawings.
  • Develop DVP&R to validate performance and analyze test results.
  • Provide hands-on experimentation support for R&D.
  • Assist root-cause analysis (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone) with guidance.
  • Maintain timelines, raise blockers, and support reviews.
  • Prepare presentation material for internal and customer reviews.

Your Job

Are you an aspiring engineer eager to gain hands-on experience and develop your skills in a dynamic and supportive environment? Join our team as an Engineering Co-op and play a pivotal role in assisting with various project-related tasks while learning to apply engineering principles in a professional setting. You will support design engineers with all product development phases required to bring automotive connector concepts into production and interface with internal departments to ensure design objectives are met in a timely manner. If you are ready to embark on an exciting journey and make a meaningful impact, we would love to have you on our engineering team.

As a co-op, you will be expected to work onsite at our Rochester Hills office 15 to 25 hours per week.

What You Will Do
  • Assist in documenting project scope, requirements, feasibility, and engineering work plans under supervision.
  • Participate in concept development, integrating considerations for manufacturing, economics, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate on Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), tolerance analysis, and other analytical studies with guidance.
  • Utilize CAD / 3D modeling to assist in creating product models and drawings using GD&T methodology, ensuring alignment with functional requirements.
  • Contribute to developing Design Validate Plans and Reports (DVP&R) to validate product performance and analyze test results using statistical methods.
  • Provide hands‑on experimentation support for R&D projects.
  • Support root cause analysis using methods like 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone diagrams with guidance.
  • Maintain basic engineering timelines, elevate barriers, and support task completion and technical reviews.
  • Prepare presentation material for internal and customer reviews.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Working towards Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Enthusiastic and eager about tackling real-world problems, expanding knowledge of essential engineering tools, and contributing to the product development process in the automotive industry.
  • Brings initiative and creative ideas to address problems and develop new products.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Working towards a Masters or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of engineering experience, relevant internships, and/or working on project teams, preferably in product design or a related field.
  • Knowledge of an experience with CAD software, specifically NX
