HOW YOU CAN MAKE AN IMPACT

The Engineering Change Specialist serves as the primary evaluator and coordinator of post-release engineering changes. This role is responsible for analyzing engineering change notifications, determining their impact on production, procurement, inventory, and suppliers, and driving the implementation strategy across the organization. The position ensures that engineering changes are thoroughly assessed, communicated, and executed in a controlled manner to minimize disruption, excess inventory, rework costs, and quality risks.

Key Activities
  • Monitor and track engineering change notifications (ELSTRS) for drawings and specifications.
  • Review and analyze engineering changes to determine:
    • What was changed and whether the change impacts form, fit, function, performance, compliance, or manufacturability.
    • Whether the change is relevant to Production, Procurement, Suppliers, Inventory, or Service.
  • Perform impact assessments for each engineering change, including:
    • Existing inventory and work-in-progress (WIP).
    • Purchased and on-order materials.
    • Manufacturing processes and work instructions.
  • Determine disposition requirements for affected materials and products, including:
    • Use-as-is, rework, or modification, scrap or obsolescence, supplier return or replacement.
    • Define and coordinate implementation plans, cutover points, and effective dates to ensure a controlled transition between revisions.
    • Work closely with Production to ensure manufacturing instructions, work orders, and assembly processes are updated in alignment with revised drawings.
    • Collaborate with Procurement to update purchase orders, supplier notifications, and incoming material requirements based on drawing changes.
    • Maintain accurate records of all engineering changes, including revision history, implementation status, and impact assessments.
    • Escalate risks, delays, inventory exposure, or supply chain concerns that could impact cost, quality, or production schedules.
    • Generate and distribute clear, concise change communications, summaries, and reports to stakeholders.
    • Track the status of open changes and elevate delays or issues that could impact production schedules or costs.
    • Participate in cross‑functional engineering change review meetings and provide recommendations regarding implementation feasibility and business impact.
    • Support continuous improvement of the engineering change process for better speed, accuracy, and visibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technology Management, Supply Chain Management or related fields
  • 0-2 years of experience in manufacturing, production control, procurement, or engineering support roles.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, revisions, and basic technical documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills - ability to explain technical changes clearly to non-technical teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor) or PLM software.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-up and tracking abilities.
