Job summary

City of Columbus is seeking a qualified paraprofessional engineer/surveyor for the Division of Design and Construction under the Department of Public Service. The role focuses on planning, coordinating, and reviewing plans for civil projects, with emphasis on CAD and GIS use.

Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth grade and five (5) years of experience performing paraprofessional engineering or surveying work; construction project management; construction materials testing; construction inspection; plan reviews for permitting or design.
Substitution(s): College education in engineering, drafting, construction management, or a related curriculum may be substituted for up to four (4) years of the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Completion of a vocational program in engineering, drafting, construction management, or related field may substitute for one (1) year of the experience.
A GED will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth grade requirement.

Responsibilities

Plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities of a section, unit, or project involving paraprofessional engineering work.
Plans and coordinates the preparation and review of plans, specifications, and drawings for construction, utility, traffic, mechanical, or electrical projects.
Utilizes CAD and GIS mapping software.
Reviews calculations of equipment, material, and labor cost estimates for projects; makes recommendations.
Supervises employees assigned to a section, unit, or project.
