Job summary

State of Alaska, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities in Nome, AK is seeking an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 to support the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. This flexibly staffed role offers progression through the Engineering Assistant series and competitive hourly salaries.

The position requires Alaska residency, strong technical skills in civil engineering concepts, and the ability to work with contractors and stakeholders on site.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering concepts for planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of facilities.
• Ability to evaluate plans, specs, and contract requirements; apply practical judgment.
• Familiarity with project documentation, measurements, testing and QA processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction inspection and monitor contractor work for compliance.
• Assist with project documentation, quantity calculations, progress estimates and contract admin.
• Collect material samples and support materials testing and QA efforts.
• Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, engineers and stakeholders.
• Support design, environmental permitting, and ROW activities during non-construction season.
• Prepare change orders, maintain records, support payment processing and audits.
• Provide on-site project support and agency representation.
• Potentially act as Project Engineer and train staff.
