Job summary

Ahlstrom Mount Holly Springs Plant is seeking an Engineering and Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and technology upgrade projects that boost safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency. You will manage a diversified portfolio, direct maintenance, power and utility functions, and promote lean improvements across the site.

Requires a Bachelors in Engineering and 5–7 years in maintenance management with strong PM, leadership, and communication skills.

Purpose of the job

Identify and lead maintenance and technology upgrade projects to make performance breakthroughs in safety, quality, productivity, cost reduction, machine efficiencies and waste reduction while concurrently complying with applicable standards. Manage and prioritize project portfolio of the plant while managing costs, expenses, and budgetary requirements. Direct maintenance functions to assure the plant infrastructure and equipment are kept in a safe, reliable condition with minimum unplanned production downtime. Direct power and utility functions to provide water, steam, waste water treatment services to support the production operations. Define, promote and manage lean projects in alignment with Business Area and plant targets.

Main responsibility areas/Essential Functions
  1. Execute/support capital projects with the engineering expertise and common project management methodologies to achieve targets as planned.
  2. Ensure strong collaboration with team and with other functions (e.g. production, quality control, product design, supply chain, process engineering, and HR).
  3. Know and understand all applicable health, safety and environment laws/regulations and applicable Ahlstrom standards, and ensure that requirements are met by direct reports, and on-site contractors.
  4. Provide short and long term direction and objectives assigned plant maintenance, power and steam staff.
  5. Analyze/determine manufacturing needs for equipment, services, facilities, and provide technical support for manufacturing, environmental operations, and other groups as needed.
  6. Assure all projects and equipment maintenance tasks are planned, designed and installed/completed in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations relating to building codes, health, safety and environment.
  7. Hire, train, develop and motivate maintenance, power and steam staff to achieve maximum productivity through appropriate skills training and development of staff. Ensure quality work performance at all levels.
  8. Lead the effort with all departments to continually evaluate the maintenance capital and expense requirements for the plant.
  9. Participate in the planning and justification of infrastructure maintenance capital projects to Business Area management and manage the schedule, cost and accomplishment of objectives.
  10. Establish/maintain a safe department work place and create practices to accomplish yearly safety goals.
  11. Develop projects using Lean methodology in order to reduce costs and increase efficiency. Analyze results against plans and propose corrective actions, providing coaching and support to ensure successful implementation.
  12. Lead Environmental and Compliance activities including Environmental Permitting (Water, Air, and Waste), Environmental testing, Remediation activities, Environmental functions, Liaison to the PA DEP.
  13. Develop long term vision and plans to support 3-5 year strategic plans
  14. Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.
Experience and education
  1. Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. At least 5-7 years field experience including maintenance management and project engineering.
  3. Ability to operate computer hardware and software programs.
  4. Ability to exercise technical, analytical, and leadership skills in order to ensure that engineering and maintenance objectives are clearly defined and capital infrastructure maintenance is ongoing.
  5. Strong project management skills required.
  6. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  7. Previous supervisory skills required.
