Working Title

Working Title Engineering 2+2 Transfer Program Coordinator and Academic Advisor

As part of the College of Science and Engineering Dean’s Office, the Engineering 2+2 Transfer Program Coordinator and Academic Advisor serves as the primary academic advisor and program coordinator for UNCW’s Engineering 2+2 transfer partnership with North Carolina State University. The position provides comprehensive academic advising and student success support for prospective and current students while coordinating program operations, recruitment and outreach activities, partnership initiatives, and assessment efforts that support the continued success and growth of the Engineering 2+2 program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a closely related field with three years of progressive experience in academic advising, student support services, or a comparable area; or a Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience utilizing a range of software applications and educational technologies, including Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems, and other technology-enhanced delivery platforms.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Possess a proven track record of effective academic advising and coaching in a university setting.
• Experience coordinating academic programs, student success initiatives, partnerships, outreach activities, or other programmatic functions within a higher education setting.
• Ability to manage large advising caseloads through effective time-management and prioritization of work.
• Experience advising students pursuing majors related to those offered through the UNCW College of Science and Engineering.
• Experience administering services and programs related to supporting diverse student populations, program assessment and evaluation, and retention initiatives.
• Knowledgeable of best practices and theoretical foundations in the fields of advising, adult learning, student development, counseling, supplemental instruction, and student services.
• Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, university regulations, and programs/policies required for compliance.
• Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds (e.g., first-year, continuing, and transfer students; pre-professional students; adult learners, military students, on-campus and online students, students from historically underrepresented populations) and knowledge of issues of these student populations.
• Demonstrated professionalism in effective communication, judgment, and integrity.
• Demonstrated commitment to and execution of high-level customer service.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology. The college also offers combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics, coastal engineering/coastal and ocean policy, and psychology/applied gerontology. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering.

The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college.

Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.

CSE students work with distinguished faculty and scientists, use cutting edge technology, and conduct impactful research. Faculty-directed research projects empower CSE students to apply what they learn inside the classroom and laboratory to real-world situations and prepare them for a variety of careers or advanced study.
